The latter were dubbed aguilas (eagles) by Christopher Columbus, who saw natives wearing them as necklace ornaments. Modern researchers are not as sure of the species shown, but some believe that they are birds of prey because talons and beaks are prominent and often clutch something, in one example here a small, disembodied head that holds a clapper. In both examples, two tufts in the form of crocodiles in profile flank the birds\u2019 heads.", "external_resources": {"wikidata": ["https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q60740622"], "internet_archive": ["https://archive.org/details/clevelandart-1951.442-double-bird-headed-f"]}, "citations": [{"citation": "Correspondence from Samuel Lothrop to William Milliken, 18 December 1951, Box 26, Folder 9, William Mathewson Milliken Records, Cleveland Museum of Art Archives.", "page_number": null, "url": null}], "url": "https://clevelandart.org/art/1951.442", "images": {"annotation": null, "web": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_web.jpg", "width": "1093", "height": "893", "filesize": "495630", "filename": "1951.442_web.jpg"}, "print": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_print.jpg", "width": "3400", "height": "2779", "filesize": "1737001", "filename": "1951.442_print.jpg"}, "full": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_full.tif", "width": "", "height": "", "filesize": "", "filename": "1951.442_full.tif"}}, "alternate_images": [{"web": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_alt0_web.jpg", "width": "1033", "height": "893", "filesize": "483674"}, "print": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_alt0_print.jpg", "width": "3400", "height": "2939", "filesize": "6036475"}, "full": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_alt0_full.tif", "width": "3540", "height": "3061", "filesize": "32551400"}, "date_created": "2011-10-24T19:15:46", "annotation": ""}, {"web": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_alt1_web.jpg", "width": "1118", "height": "893", "filesize": "647408"}, "print": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_alt1_print.jpg", "width": "1923", "height": "1536", "filesize": "1885334"}, "full": {"url": "https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.442/1951.442_alt1_full.tif", "width": "1923", "height": "1536", "filesize": "8864436"}, "annotation": ""}], "creditline": "Thirty-fifth anniversary gift in memory of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Humphreys, Gift of their daughter, Helen", "image_credit": null, "sketchfab_id": null, "sketchfab_url": null, "gallery_donor_text": null, "athena_id": 128821, "creators": [], "legal_status": "accessioned", "accession_date": "1951-11-15T00:00:00", "sortable_date": 1000, "date_added_to_oa": null, "date_text": "c. 1000\u20131500", "collapse_artists": false, "on_loan": false, "recently_acquired": false, "record_type": "object", "conservation_statement": null, "has_conservation_images": false, "cover_accession_number": null, "is_nazi_era_provenance": false, "impression": null, "alternate_titles": ["Double Bird-Man Pendant with Monkey Heads"], "is_highlight": false, "updated_at": "2026-05-29 06:39:07.276000"}}
