In Parma and upon his arrival in Rome in 1524, he experimented with print to study works by artists he admired, such as Raphael. He fled Rome at the time of its sack in 1527, and he moved to Bologna. There, he began his engagement with chiaroscuro woodcuts, collaborating with Ugo da Carpi and Antonio da Trento. Parmigianino then returned to Parma in 1530. --- measurements: Sheet: 8.6 x 7.5 cm (3 3/8 x 2 15/16 in.); Secondary Support: 14.9 x 13.4 cm (5 7/8 x 5 1/4 in.) state of the work: edition of the work: support materials: description: laid paper laid down on beige(1) laid? paper watermarks: inscriptions: inscription: RECTO OF SECONDARY SUPPORT, lower left, in graphite: 19 ; lower center, in brown ink: Parmeggiano. ; lower right, in graphite: 15 ; VERSO OF SECONDARY SUPPORT, lower center, in graphite: A 3541 ; FRAGMENT OF OLD MOUNT (now removed), across top, in graphite: Collns.
