fun fact:
digital description:
In one episode of Saint Martin’s life, he cut apart his cloak to share it with a freezing beggar. That night Martin dreamed it was actually Christ who wore the cloth he generously gave away. Artists often depicted Martin riding on a horse, but in this print Schongauer alluded to the steed by putting spurs on Martin’s boots.
