"description": "Much of the Mughals\u2019 wealth derived from the international export of textiles, which became increasingly fashionable throughout Europe and America during the 18th century. This garment was made in India for the aristocratic French market. The floral designs inspired by the southern Indian dyed fabrics known as palampore have been enlivened by labor-intensive gilding and burnishing.",

A custom-sized torso form was made to fit a waistcoat in the Metropolitan Museum of Art\u2019s collection (35.142). This Man\u2019s Morning Coat in Cleveland's collection, made of the same textile, was displayed on top of the Met\u2019s waistcoat in the 2013 exhibition Interwoven Globe: The Worldwide Textile Trade, 1500\u20131800.",
