wall description:
Created during the closing months of World War II, Amazon is a violently distorted image of the legendary female warrior writhing in pain. Lengthy, looping engraved lines—a distinctive hallmark of Hayter’s style at the time—demarcate the figure, which is further enlivened by areas of etched patterning formed by pressing textured materials such as gauze and mesh into a waxy material applied to the printing plate.
