wall description:
Saint George and the Dragon presents the ancient Roman army said to have killed the monster after it was subdued by consuming human sacrifices. The subject was approved by the Print Club of Cleveland, which commissioned Dalí to create its annual presentation print to be distributed to members. Because at this point in his career the artist had little experience with printmaking, he turned to Atelier 17 founder Stanley William Hayter for advice. During a brief visit to New York, Dalí etched his plate at Atelier 17 under Hayter’s supervision, at which time he also printed this trial proof used as a guide for printing the other impressions.
