"Treasures of Peruvian Gold." --- PROVENANCE --- fun fact: digital description: wall description: Both pendants depict paired figures with tusklike noses. The "tusks" perhaps refer to the upswept nose of the leaf-nosed bat, an agile hunter whose "leaf" helps it to snatch prey from midair. The bat's success as a hunter is part of the reason that some identify such paired figures as warriors. They each hold a paddle-shaped object; the larger pair, in elaborate costumes, also clutches staffs. --- RELATED WORKS --- CITATIONS Cleveland Museum of Art, “Recent Acquisitions Press Release,” August 15, 1951, Cleveland Museum of Art Archives. page number: url: https://archive.org/details/cmapr0028 --- IMAGES web: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.153/1951.153_web.jpg print: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.153/1951.153_print.jpg full: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1951.153/1951.153_full.tif
