She began a fifty-year career of designing for Upsala-Ekeby (1886-1980) in 1944 at only nineteen years old. Atterberg’s ceramic designs often feature stylized natural motifs. * Upsala-Ekeby (Swedish, 1886–1980) - manufacturer Established in 1886 in the Swedish town Uppsala, the ceramics manufactory Upsala-Ekeby initially produced specialized tiles for the traditional Swedish stove called a “kakel.” By the 1950s and 1960s, the firm was praised for its modernist ceramic vessels, including vases and bowls. The firm’s wares were fine examples of the mid-century Swedish call for “better everyday things,” or “vackrare vardagsvara.” --- measurements: Overall: 21.6 x 16.5 cm (8 1/2 x 6 1/2 in.) state of the work: edition of the work: support materials: inscriptions: --- CURRENT EXHIBITIONS title: Color and Comfort: Swedish Modern Design opening date: 2019-02-11T05:00:00 Color and Comfort: Swedish Modern Design.
