"description": "Paintings from this Pahari series often place figures \ragainst boldly contrasting backgrounds. Here, the \rscene that takes place a moment before the prince \rPradyumna\u2019s mace, or club, vanquishes the demon \rSamvara is frozen in time.

Years before, the demon heard a prophecy that \rPradyumna would one day murder him. Hearing \rthis, Samvara kidnapped Pradyumna as an \rinfant and threw him into the ocean, where a fish \rswallowed him. The fish was caught and brought \rto Samvara\u2019s kitchen, where the woman who would \rbecome his wife, Mayavati, discovered the baby \rstill alive in its belly. Pradyumna lived to fulfill the \rprophecy, eventually killing the demon in this fight.",
