"description": "Albrecht D\u00fcrer traveled from Nuremberg, his hometown, to Italy in 1494\u201395. Evidence suggests that he stopped in Mantua to meet painter Andrea Mantegna, then about 64 years old. The nature of their exchange\u2014if it occurred\u2014is unknown, yet each artist\u2019s engravings profoundly influenced the other. Mantegna\u2019s work introduced D\u00fcrer to complex mythological subjects and stories featuring the nude body; D\u00fcrer later incorporated one of Mantegna\u2019s nymphs from the print Battle of the Sea Gods into his print Hercules at the Crossroad, shown here.",
