wall description:
Karel van Mander (1548–1606) is best known as an author, although he was most active as an artist under the influence of Goltzius. His most famous work is the 1604 publication, Het Schilder-boeck (The Book of Painters), a part-theoretical and part-biographical study. In 1583, Van Mander settled in Haarlem, and became closely involved with Goltzius and his circle.
