wall description:
As an artist, Zhang Yuehu was better known in Japan than in his own country. Here he depicted the great Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guanyin in Chinese), enveloped by the glow of his halo and surrounded by the rocks and bamboo grove of the Potalaka Isle. The epitome of compassion, this bodhisattva is the single most popular deity in Buddhism and holds immense appeal for all Buddhists, including those of the Chan (Zen) sect.
