Using unconventional materials—like the horsehair in this sculpture—Olga de Amaral creates works inspired by the landscape and history of her native Colombia. The woven, interlacing fibers in this sculpture are evocative of dyed human hair, creating a dynamic surface of alternating vibrant reds and blues. De Amaral moved the fiber art medium beyond its conventions, bringing her works away from the wall to explore their full sculptural potential. Known as “woven walls,” these works directly engage their architectural environment.",
