"description": "In 1891, Maurice Prendergast left Boston for Paris, where he studied art for three years at the Atelier Colarossi and the Acad\u00e9mie Julian. It was probably in France that he learned the technique of monotype, a medium that he used throughout the second half of the 1890s. This delicate view of children on a beach\u2014possibly Saint-Malo in France\u2014reflects the influence of James Abbott McNeill Whistler.",
