"inscription_translation": "Inscriptions by the artist: \n\nI am quite fond of fantastic rocks. My friend Dai li shan ren [Wang Li \u738b\u79ae] is quite fond of my painting, to the same degree as I love rocks. There has long been an understanding between us that we would exchange paintings for rocks [and vice versa]. At the time, I was traveling constantly. This summer, by chance I recalled our previous understanding, realizing that a fantastic rock [that he gave me] had been in my studio for as long as five years. Thereupon I painted this to fulfill my promise. I wrote this colophon and rendered a scene of tall and steep cliffs at the very end of this album of twelve leaves. This is the sixth day of the sixth month, of the year of wushen [1788]. Zhengzhai Min Zhen wrote this.",

"description": "Min Zhen, who was orphaned at age 12 and developed an eccentric personality, was trained by Tang Yin (1682\u20131756), a writer, playwright, and superintendent of the imperial porcelain workshops in Jingdezhen. The connection to him may have enabled Min to stay in Beijing for a decade from around 1773. It is not clear whether he ever resided in Yangzhou, but his style is in many instances reminiscent of that of Yangzhou artist Huang Shen. This album demonstrates Min\u2019s versatility and mature style in the last years of his life.",
