                "biography": "Samuel A. Weller (1851-1925). American potter active from 1871, notable after he set up a pottery at Zanesville, OH, in 1888. In 1894 he bought the Lonhuda pottery and transferred it to Zanesville the following year. Some distinguished designers and decorators were employed. e.g. F. H. Rhead, Charles Babcock Upjohn, Albert Haubrich, and Jacques Sicard, whom he brought from France. Sicard was responsible for handsome vases with iridescent glazes, made c. 1901-07 and called Sicardo ware. The factory closed in 1948.",
