"Inventive Impressions: 18th- and 19th-Century French Prints". --- PROVENANCE --- fun fact: digital description: wall description: Since Roche was primarily a sculptor and ceramist, he sought a more three-dimensional printmaking technique and experimented with the gypsograph, which is printed in relief. The figure of Prometheus (a Greek mythological figure punished by Zeus) appears to have been carved from the rocky outcropping behind it. At the same time, Roche created the effect of transparent water and reflection in the lower portion of the composition. --- RELATED WORKS --- CITATIONS --- IMAGES web: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1991.254/1991.254_web.jpg print: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1991.254/1991.254_print.jpg full: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1991.254/1991.254_full.tif
