Mullins (American, 1860–1917) - artist William J. Mullins American, 1860-1917 A member of the Photo-Secession, William Mullins lived in Franklin, Pennsylvania. He became a chemist for Standard Oil before turning to photography during the amateur movement of the 1890s. His work was included in the first members' show at Alfred Stieglitz's "291" gallery, as well as in other important exhibitions, and was reproduced by Stieglitz in Camera Notes. Best known for his studies of nature, Mullins (born in Steubenville, Ohio) also produced some very fine, often small-scale photographs of other subjects, which reveal his strong sense of form and design.
