His romance with the camera began when he worked for a professional photographer from 1969-71. With the assistance of two grants from the Arts Council of Great Britain (1975, 1976), Marsden traveled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, photographing architectural subjects and the varied landscapes he encountered. His particular interest is with the ruins of castles and houses throughout the British Isles, and their associated ghost stories and legends. Marsden's work was published frequently throughout the 1970s in various photography periodicals. His books include In Ruins (1980) and The Haunted Realm (1984). He lives in London.
