Scotland, 1831-1913\r\n\r\nAlexander Henderson, originally an amateur of independent means, came to Canada in 1855 and was the first North American member of the Stereoscopic Exchange Club. In the mid-1860s he became a professional photographer, exhibiting in the 1865 Dublin International Exhibition. He issued several made-to-order albums entitled Canadian Views and Studies, Photographed from Nature.\r\n\tHenderson's works possess some pictorial qualities, and his best examples suggest a strong sense of time and space. In 1885 he accepted a commission from the Canadian Pacific Railway to photograph scenes in the Canadian West. He remained with the company, and in the early 1890s served as manager of the photography department of the Canadian Pacific in Montreal. T.W.F.",
