Cleveland, Ohio: The Cleveland Museum of Art; 8/15/04-11/14/04. "Nature Sublime: Landscapes from the 19th Century". No exhibition catalogue. --- PROVENANCE --- fun fact: digital description: wall description: Nathe studied in Leipzig with Adam Friedrich Oeser, who taught many important figures of the period including the writer and philosopher Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and the archaeologist and art historian Johann Joachim Winckelmann. Oeser inspired Winckelmann’s philosophy "edle Einfalt, stille Grösse" (noble simplicity, quiet magnificence). Although Nathe went in his own direction, this meticulous landscape of sunlight striking rocks beside a brook reveals the influence of his teacher. --- RELATED WORKS --- CITATIONS --- IMAGES web: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1995.215/1995.215_web.jpg print: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1995.215/1995.215_print.jpg full: https://openaccess-cdn.clevelandart.org/1995.215/1995.215_full.tif
