George Shepherd was known for making fine salt and albumen prints, from both calotypes and waxed paper negatives, of Dover, Canterbury, Hastings, and their environs. These consisted of coastal landscapes, studies of Dover Castle, and town scenes of streets, churches, shops, and squares. He occasionally included figures in his images to provide a sense of scale and activity. K.L.C.
