While supporting himself until 1967 as the chief librarian of the Cleveland Press, he was active in local camera clubs, the Photographic Society of America, and the New Pictorialists Society. He preferred the bromoil and gum bichromate processes because they afforded more opportunities for manupulating the printing process, thus facilitating personal expression. Through these techniques he attained subtle tonal variations and emphasized qualities of abstract pictorial design. In 1954 he exhibited with the New Pictorialists at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., and at the Pasadena Central Library. Posthumous exhibitions of Schreiber graphs were organized by the Cleveland Public Library (1989–90) and the Beck Center in Lakewood, Ohio (1991).
