Bey is recognized for expanding the conventions of traditional studio portraiture through his use of multiple images made from slightly different perspectives, at slightly different times, that he then combines into complex compositions. In this affectionate, multilayered group portrait, Bey was able to render a richer record of his subjects’ appearance and the nuances of their physical and emotional interaction.
