fun fact:
Each of the cowherd boys wears a different color hood.
digital description:
The glowing hues and exquisite treatment of the figures and vegetation transport the viewer to the mythic realm of the Hindu god Krishna. Nanda, the lead elder of the cowherder village, sits amid the village council, larger than the others. After witnessing the divine and superhuman activities of Krishna, the cowherders approached Nanda and asked him for an explanation.
wall description:
The glowing hues and exquisite treatment of the figures and vegetation transport the viewer to the
mythic realm of the Hindu god Krishna. Nanda, the lead elder of the cowherder village, sits amid the village council, larger than the others. He is suggesting that the villagers move homes, seen in the distance, to another remote village site, where demons that had been besieging them might not find them. A charming cluster of sherbet-hued cows at the left identify their profession.
Librarians at the Rajput court of Bikaner affixed salmon-colored borders on paintings in the collection. At times, they were pasted onto glass windows for viewing, marring the sides.
